Risen Christ Food Pantry
Hunger: It is prevalent in all walks of our society. As the economy goes up and down hunger is always present. Risen Christ Food Pantry tries to help the ones that are in need. The Pantry is only one day per month but the day chosen is towards the end of the month when our clients food supply is running low. We try to provide our clients with 3 to 5 days of food.
We order the food from Second Harvest in Springfield, Ohio. It is a grocery warehouse that receives donated and purchased food. It also receives government commodities. Unlike a regular grocery store they sell their wares by the pound at a very reduced price. We can provide enough food for 100 people for under 100 dollars a month. This includes cereal, fruits, vegetables, beans, noodles and some type of meat. We try to provide balanced meals. We serve all ages with an average of three to four persons per household.
The Pantry operates on the third Tuesday of every month from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Volunteers from the church bag the groceries and carry the bags out to the clients’ cars. Many of our clients are senior citizens that have problems with stairs and mobility. If you would like to help, just show up on the third Tuesday about 10:00 in the morning.
As with any organization we can always use donations of food or money. We generally are in need of canned corn and beans. Paper grocery bags are also needed. If you would like more information or would like to volunteer, please contact the church office between 9:00am and 12:00pm. Greg and Chandra Shrader coordinate the efforts of the Pantry. Chuck and Lora Bern pick up the groceries, organize the food and put out signs along the road to let the public know when the day of Pantry is.
The pantry is open every 3rd Tuesday of each month from 11am to 1pm.
